NPAS opens recruitment for experienced Rotary Line Pilots
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) has launched a new recruitment drive for experienced rotary pilots.
Applications are now open for several key locations across the country, including Barton, Birmingham, Husbands Bosworth, Lippitts Hill, and Redhill.
The role, which involves working as part of a small, highly skilled crew, is central to NPAS’s mission of delivering critical air support to police forces across England and Wales. Line pilots fly alongside Tactical Flight Officers, responding to a wide range of incidents - from missing person searches to high-speed vehicle pursuits.
A demanding but rewarding role
NPAS is seeking qualified rotary pilots who hold a UK Commercial Pilot’s Licence (Helicopter), an RT licence, and a valid Class 1 medical. Candidates must also meet strict experience requirements, including:
- A minimum of 1,500 flying hours (or 1,000 hours in a military helicopter)
- At least 100 hours of night flying, with 20 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC)
- 500 hours PIC overland under Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC)
- Demonstrated significant overland flying experience
Applications close in July
The closing date for applications is Friday, 27 July 2025.
NPAS encourages interested candidates to apply early and ensure they meet all eligibility criteria.
With a reputation for excellence and a commitment to public safety, NPAS offers a unique opportunity for experienced pilots to take their careers to new heights - literally and figuratively.
