Rotary Line Pilots  

Location: Various
Salary: Up to £82,874 outside London, or £85,874 in London (basic salary £65,457 to £68,874 plus £14,000 market factor outside London and £17,000 in London.)

The job in a nutshell: You will fly on fast-paced, dynamic missions, working with Tactical Flight Officers, to find missing people, follow dangerous vehicles, support firearms operations, gather criminal evidence and help police large-scale events. 

The person for the job: A great team member and self-starter with excellent communication skills. You'll have flown a minimum 1,500 hours (or 1,000 hours in military) including 500 hours Pilot in Command overland with a significant proportion of low flying and 100 hours flying at night (including 20 hours Pilot in Command at night).

Tactical Flight Officers

Location:  NPAS bases nationally 
Open to: Substantive Police Constables (with support from your force)
Experience: You don't need any aviation experience, just bring your best self

The job in a nutshell: As part of a highly-skilled air crew, you will provide valuable support to your police colleagues on the ground, directing them from your unique perspective in the air and, most importantly, keeping them safe. Your jobs will often be fast-paced but you'll also help out with pre-planned events like large-scale gatherings or evidence gathering. Sometimes, you'll have to land to help people and, although quite uncommon, use your powers of arrest. 

The person for the job: It's a tough selection process, because it is such a specialised job. So you need to be 100% committed, a great team player, adaptable, enthusiastic and have great communication skills. 

Great tip to help your chances: Get in touch with your local base at any time if you are seriously thinking about applying. Even better, try and spend a few shifts with the crews to find out exactly what it takes to be a Tactical Flight Officer with the National Police Air Service. You'd be very welcome.
