Coordinated response with NPAS results in arrest in Waltham Abbey M25 incident

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) North Weald helicopter crew was deployed on Thursday (22 May) to support Essex Police during a serious incident on the M25 near Waltham Abbey.

Shortly before 10am, emergency services responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the M25 anti-clockwise between Junctions 25 and 26. The incident resulted in significant disruption, with the motorway closed for several hours to allow for accident investigation and recovery operations.

NPAS North Weald provided aerial support, offering real-time situational awareness to officers on the ground and assisting in managing traffic and coordinating emergency response efforts. The helicopter’s involvement was crucial in helping to safely manage the scene and support the wider policing operation.

Essex Police confirmed that one individual was arrested in connection with the incident.

Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing at Essex Police, said:

“Thanks to the professionalism and calm of our officers, and the support of the National Police Air Service, we were able to bring this incident to a safe conclusion without any injuries to all involved.”
